Isn't this the same as a spit ball?
I have been wondering about this and wanted to know what the answer is for a long time.

In baseball, I know a spitball is illegal. So why do pitchers such as Dice K. of the Boston Red Sox rub their necks and arms for sweat and then rub up the ball?

Isn't this the same as a spit ball?

If a pitcher goes to his mouth while on the the mound, the pitch is automatically a ball.
